Sculpture
Having travelled to Florence, Italy in the mid 90’s to study classical drawing George was introduced to modelling the figure in clay. Venturing to Pietrasanta, Carrara he witnessed sculpture in marble on an immense scale. In all its forms; traditional, modern, abstract. He was in awe.
Pietra Santa is a magnet, attracting sculptors from all over the world, its history and the quarry mining of marble in the Apennines goes back to beyond Roman times. As well as marble sculpture there are some of the most famous foundry’s in the world, producing bronze statues on a huge scale. There he met and studied the carving of marble under master craftsmen, Bedini Giovanni for 3 years.
Since his return to Melbourne in 1999, George has built up and developed a wonderful studio. It mirrors the same concept as the Italian Bottega. Now 20 years later, he is sculpting full time finally finding his true passion and calling.

The Creative Journey
The process of creating a sculpture occurs over many months, sometimes years. It is a labour of love forged in the artistic pursuit of technical detail, patience and sometime luck. It begins with a sitting, observation of the subject and technical drawing. The three dimensional form is then cast in plaster and silicon to be finally reproduced in a variety of mediums including Marble, Terracotta and Bronze.
